Natasha Scharf is a music and alt-culture journalist. She founded and edited Meltdown in 1999, which became the UK’s best-selling magazine for goths. She now writes for the UK magazines Metal Hammer and Prog. She is also the author of the book Worldwide Gothic. In addition, Scharf styles gothic photo shoots from jewelry and clothing brands and is recognized worldwide as an expert in the goth aesthetic. Scharf lives in London.

Daniel Bautz is the creator and host of the Grand Dark Conspiracy. Starting May 1st, 2008, Daniel launched the GDC as a means to explore the fringes of reality. Having experiences that were not readily explainable by the conventional means spurred his lifelong interest in the odd, weird and the unknown.

Dave Thompson did an outstanding interview with WFMU last weekend about Joan Jett. Listen to the discussion about Joan and her recent induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Onstage and Backstage

About the Book
Bad Reputation: The Unauthorized Biography of Joan Jett is the unexpurgated story of Joan Jett, the single most exciting rocker of the American 1980s, one of the biggest-selling acts of the age, and one of punk rock's most valued elder statespeeps. Through its pages, a welter of exclusive interviews and observations paint what might well be the last great tale of rock hedonism, but one that comes with a twist in its tail. The rockers are women, the groupies are guys. It could have been the plot line for a movie or even a sitcom, but the Runaways, Jett's first band, made it happen, and Jett made it last.

Dave Thompson (Newark, DE) is the author of over 100 books on rock and pop culture, including Roger Waters: The Man Behind the Wall and Hearts of Darkness: James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Cat Stevens, and the Unlikely Rise of the Singer-Songwriter, both from Backbeat Books. His writing has appeared in Rolling Stone, Spin, Goldmine, MOJO, Melody Maker, and other outlets.

WFMU is Michael Shelley's weekly radio show, featuring interviews with the high-rollers of rock, soul, country, and jazz. Check out his podcast here! Also, check out the WFMU website here!
